What Makes Secure Self Storage?
All our clients, no matter their reasons for want to store goods, are looking for somewhere safe to store their possessions. It’s a basic requirement of storage that your goods will be protected in your absence, and it’s one that Schepens takes very seriously.
All self storage facilities will tell you that they provide a secure environment for your goods. With something as important as this, though, it’s worth taking a look for yourself before making a decision. We’ve put together a list of 5 checks you can easily carry out before choosing your secure self storage provider.
1. Is There a Professional Workforce?
You should be able to tell whether you’re dealing with professionals from your first point of contact. Is your enquiry dealt with promptly? Are staff clear and articulate? At Schepens our employees are trained to industry standards. This ensures that they have the knowledge and confidence to carry out their work efficiently.
2. Is the Facility Well-Maintained?
Take a drive past to get your first impression of a storage facility. If it looks tired and down-at-heel this is an important signal that the security may not be up to scratch. Check out the car park, too. Ask yourself whether you’d feel safe getting out of your car on a dark winter’s afternoon, or at weekends. Is there car park lighting in evidence?
3. Lighting Throughout the Premises
Well-maintained internal and external lighting is a strong indicator of the levels of security on offer. Premises that are poorly lit provide an obvious target for thieves, so there should be security lighting outside the building, and a good level of visibility inside. If there are areas internally where lights have blown and not been replaced, take this as an indicator of sloppy security.
4. Individually Secured Access
There are two questions that storage staff should be able to answer unequivocally:
- Who Has Access To My Storage Container? The answer you’re looking for is: ‘no-one but you’. Staff holding keys to your goods weakens the security, whatever the reasoning for doing so.
- How Will I Access My Storage Container? The response should involve an individualised access method. It may be a swipe card, a unique key code, or a password. In each case the security code should be known only to you.
5. Digital Surveillance
All Schepens facilities are protected with digital CCTV 24 hours a day. This means that there’s a record of activity at all times. All our cameras have been installed by security engineers to ensure optimum coverage and high quality imagery. The building is monitored at all times, so any unusual activity can be dealt with immediately.
Schepens Self Storage for Peace of Mind
We take pride in offering high levels of security for our domestic and business clients across Hampshire and Wiltshire. In fact our protection of your goods begins the moment we seal your container for transport.
